End a Tenancy

How do you end your tenancy?

If you are moving home and want to give up your tenancy we normally require at least four weeks notice. The 4 weeks will start from the Monday after we receive your notice.

You must hand in your keys at any of our local Yourlink offices before 12 noon on the Monday when your tenancy is due to end.

If there are special reasons why you can't give us four weeks notice let us know as early as you can.

In certain circumstances we may be able to waive the requirement for you to give us four weeks notice. It will also help us to make early arrangements to re-let your home.

If you would like to give notice to end your council tenancy you can use this form.

Empty property reward scheme 

We want to say thank you when you end you tenancy with us, if you give us the proper notice and leave your home in good condition, you may be entitled to a reward of up to £150 when you leave your home.

The following rewards are available when you end yor tenancy:

You can receive a £50 reward if you do all the following:

• give us 4 weeks' notice before you end your tenancy.
• give us your forwarding address.
• allow us to inspect your home and to do any monor repairs before you leave.

You can receive a further £100 reward. Before you hand in your keys, make sure:

• your home is clean and in good decorative order 
• you have cleared your home of any belongings, furnishings or rubbish
• the garden is tidy, well kept and free of rubbish
• there is no damage to the property, fixtures or fittings.
