Seghill

RESPECT was formed in Seghill in July 2005. RESPECT stands for Residents Enhancing Seghill Promoting Effective Community Time.

Work has been ongoing since August 2004 when an "Options Study" was undertaken by Blyth Valley Housing and independent consultants which resulted in a series of newsletters, a door to door survey and several public meetings for residents of the following streets: Burnlea Gardens, Dene Grove, Deneside, Hill Avenue, Kentmere Close, Trinity Grove, Blaketown, Bonnivard Gardens, Burnside Close, The Close, The Crescent, Esmeralda Gardens, Hazlitt Place, Laycock Gardens, Maddison Gardens, Northcott Gardens, Stanley Gardens and Station Road

The Options Study was funded by the Government's Tenant Empowerment Grant Programme and offered the opportunity for residents to find out more about setting up a Residents Association and becoming more involved in the management of their homes. During the consultation, residents agreed that regular informal meetings would be a good idea giving them the opportunity to meet with officers from Blyth Valley Housing.

After months of consultation, residents decided to set up a formal Residents Association which will make a difference in the area.  The current goal for RESPECT this year is to improve parking by acquiring funding to pay for hardstands around Seghill and traffic calming measures.
