North Farm Residents & Community Association

The North Farm Residents and Community Association in Blyth has been in existence since 2001 and proved to be really successful. The Association's constitution currently covers the following streets: - Walton Avenue, Temple Avenue, Cowpen Road (part) and Lindsay Avenue. More recently, discussions have taken place to expand the Association to cover neighboring streets.

The group is actively involved in local housing and community issues and is passionate in their aim to improve the lives of residents in the North Farm area. By working together and getting involved the group has had a voice in the community and achieved many things which have been to the benefit of the residents.

Maureen McAvoy, a Tenant Board Director and a member of the Residents Association works closely with Blyth Valley Housing and provides that important link between Residents and the Housing Company, ensuring that resident’s views are heard and that residents can make an impact on services that affect their homes and the community.

Since 2001, the Association has been involved in a number of activities which has led to real improvements and achievements for the area, including:

  • Children’s Adventure Trail Park & Picnic Area (pictured below
  • Children’s Play Park for under 10’s
  • Commemorative Miners Garden
  • Children’s Gardening Club
  • Northumbrian in Bloom Awards
  • Floral Displays to Estate Entrance
  • Improved Street Lighting & Extra Litter Bins
  • Introduction of traffic calming measures
  • Introduction of Neighborhood Watch Scheme
  • Over sixties & Children’s Christmas and Halloween Parties

Future Aims of the Association

The Association is hoping to be successful in their bid for funding to help towards a life sized Minor & Pit Pony to match their existing Coal Wagon Floral Display.  They are working towards a ‘Celebration Day’ to celebrate some of the areas local history and are working very closely with schools in the area.
