Council Tax Benefit
Council Tax Benefit is to help you pay your council tax.
To be able to get help, you must
- Have to pay council tax.
- Live in the home you are claiming for (you cannot get help with holiday or second homes).
- Have less than £16,000 in capital.
- Be getting a low wage or low income.
How much will I receive?
This will depend on:
- How much money you have coming in.
- How much capital you have (we do not count the home you live in).
- Who else lives with you and their income.
- Whether you have children.
- Whether anyone in your household is disabled.
- Whether you or you partner receive invalid care allowance for looking after someone.
- Whether you have recently been bereaved.
- Which council tax band your home is (if your home is a band F, G or H benefit is usually restricted to the amount payable on a band E property).
You can download a Housing and Council Tax Benefit application form here.
