Positive about disabled people

Blyth Valley Housing has been awarded the two ticks for being positive about disabled people.

Blyth Valley Housing will take action to ensure that disabled people are supported and treated fairly at every stage of their selection and employment:

1. we will interview all applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and we will consider them on their abilities;
2. we will ensure there is a mechanism in place to discuss, at any time, but at least once a year with disabled employees what we can do to make sure they develop and use their abilities;
3. we will make every effort when employees become disabled to make sure they stay in employment;
4. we will take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make our commitments work

Each year we review these commitments and what has been achieved with Jobcentre Plus.

We have also included actions within our Equality Scheme 'Valuing People, Valuing Diversity' to meet the needs of our disabled employees and residents.
